A couple of weeks ago it was my 21st birthday and it's sort of a tradition in my family to start giving 'serious' presents. So I was given things like cutlery and kitchen utensils for when I eventually move out. But one thing I was given isn't so serious! I have now have my very own Frozen Yogurt, Ice-cream & Sorbet Maker! Ice-cream is my favourite type of dessert and making a homemade batch is #43 on my 101 in 1001 list, so when I unwrapped this I was over the moon! Needless to say I'll be putting it to good use now and not packing it away for the future.
The first time I used it, I made a batch of chocolate ice-cream and it was a real hit with my family! It wasn't all smooth sailing and there are a couple of things I'd change, but overall it turned out really well. I think I need to invest in is some proper Tupperware containers as the old takeaway containers I used to store the ice cream just didn't cut it!
Chocolate Ice-cream (Adapted from the Cuisinart Recipe Booklet)
1 Cup of baking cocoa powder
2/3 Cup of sugar
1/2 Cup of firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 Cups of milk
3 1/4 Cups of whipping cream
1 Tablespoon of vanilla essence
Optional: 1 Cup of chocolate chips
Place the cocoa powder, sugar and brown sugar into a medium bowl. After you have combined them, add the milk and then use a hand mixer on low speed until the sugars and cocoa have dissolved. Then stir in the whipping cream and vanilla essence. Once all the ingredients have combined, pour into your ice-cream maker and follow your machines instructions. One extra yummy thing to do is add some chocolate chips, but make sure they're not too big otherwise they'll just sink to the bottom like mine did!
